Taiwan's national bird is the Formosan blue magpie, also known as the Taiwan blue magpie. Since they tend to be found in the lower mountain elevations, it was surprising to find one in a nature garden at the base of Zhi Shan Yuan in the Taipei basin.
In addition to being a nature garden (I'll have to get the name of it and post it here), this place often takes in sick or wounded birds. Since this particular Formosan blue magpie has been seen at the nature garden for two years or more, it seems to have made that place its home. It doesn't appear sick or wounded, and it's not in a cage.
Either in 2009 or early 2010, I saw a Formosan blue magpie by Huangshi Creek. Since the flash is the default setting for my camera, and I'd forgotten to turn off the flash feature, the first flash of the camera frightened the bird away. The following three photos are varying ranges for the one photo I was able to take.
